Whereas, for more than a century Boys & Girls Clubs have helped put young people on the path to great futures. Nearly 4,000 clubs across the country serve more than 4 million young people, including more than 4,400 Alameda youth; and
Whereas, Alameda Boys & Girls Club offers programs and services that instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence; and
Whereas, Alameda Boys & Girls Club's doors are open to all youth, from all schools and backgrounds, every day and evening after school, on weekends and during vacation; and
Whereas,, with their hi-tech computer labs, commercial kitchen, edible garden, Classroom of the Future, maker space and state-of-the-art Youth Development Center, Alameda Boys & Girls Club is a community resource for all Alameda youth; and
Whereas, in addition to after-school homework help and tutoring, Alameda Boys & Girls Club offers free vision and medical screenings from local medical professionals who volunteer their services, and assists with access to follow up care; and
Whereas, Alameda Boys & Girls Club promotes character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; access to STEM and technology programs; fine and performing arts; sports, fitness and recreation opportunities; mental health and wellness resources; literacy programs; and delinquency prevention; and
Whereas, Alameda Boys & Girls Club offers all Alameda youth a safe and supportive home-away-from home.
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that I, Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, Mayor of Alameda, do hereby proclaim March 30 through April 3, 2020 as National Boys & Girls Club Week in the City of Alameda and call upon the residents of Alameda to join me in recognizing Alameda Boys & Girls Club for the important, life changing services it pro...
