EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council must adopt a resolution calling the November election for the offices of Councilmember, Auditor and Treasurer and requesting the County to conduct the election.
BACKGROUND
City Charter Section 19-2 requires a General Municipal Election to be held biennially on the date of, and consolidated with, the Statewide General Election in each even-numbered year.
DISCUSSION
In accordance with the City Charter and the California Elections Code, the City Council shall call for the November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election to be consolidated with the Statewide General Election. The following City offices will appear on the ballot: two City Councilmembers, City Auditor and City Treasurer, as well as all ballot or advisory measures or propositions, which may lawfully be submitted. At this meeting, the Council will also consider two ballot measures proposing to amend the City Charter. If the City of Alameda (City) agrees to reimburse costs, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters will provide election-related services.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The funds for this election are allocated in the City Clerk election account in the amount of $215,000 in Fiscal Year 2020-21.
