Re: Receive Report from the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park Foundation
BACKGROUND
Jean Sweeney Open Space Park (Park) is the largest park in the Alameda Park system and the first phase was completed and the entire park opened in December 2018. Two phases remain as undeveloped open space until funding is identified for further construction and an eminent domain process is completed with Union Pacific for a portion of parkland that is required for park completion.
The Jean Sweeney Open Space Park Foundation (JSOSPF) is an important partner with the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) for the development and ongoing maintenance of the Park including:
• Participating in the Park design and development
• Coordinating the bench and picnic table donation campaign for the Park
• Providing aerial photos and videos of the Park construction progress
• Advocating for Park funding
• Coordinating volunteer maintenance efforts
DISCUSSION
Dorothy Freeman, Co-Chair of JSOSP, will present current volunteer programs in the Park and provide an update.
RECOMMENDATION
