EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

The City Council is required to adopt a resolution to certify the results of the General Municipal Election. 

 

BACKGROUND

 

Elections Code Section 10262 requires the governing body of the City of Alameda (City) to adopt a resolution declaring the results of an election.

 

DISCUSSION

 

The Certificates of Election for the Consolidated General Municipal Election held on November 3, 2020 are attached. 

 

Offices:

                     Candidates Malia Vella and Trish Spencer received the two highest number of votes cast for and are elected to the office of Councilmember.

 

                     Candidate Kevin Kearney received the highest number of votes cast for and is elected to the office of City Auditor. 

 

                     Candidate Kevin Kennedy received the highest number of votes cast for and is elected to the office of City Treasurer. 

 

Measures:

Measure Z repealing Article 26 of the City Charter did not receive a majority and therefore did not pass... 

 

Measure AA amending the City Charter to clarify and expand the prohibition against members of the City Council interfering with the City Manager’s and other elected or appointed officials’ administrative duties, to authorize the City Attorney to prosecute State law misdemeanors, and to amend outdated Charter provisions, including utilizing gender neutral language, passed by a majority vote.  The Charter amendments to Sections 2-9, 2-16, 7-3, 8-2, 10-2, 10-3, 10-4, 10-4.1, and deleting Sections 2-15, 22-7, 22-8, will be certified and the City Charter will be revised.

 

ALTERNATIVES

 

City Council is required to certify the election results, therefore, alternatives are not being provided.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

 

The funds for this election were budgeted in the City Clerk’s Election Program in the General Fund (account 001-2220-61060). No additional appropriations are needed.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

 

Environmental review is not required to certify the results of the City’s municipal election.

RECOMMENDATION

 

Adopt a resolution declaring canvass of returns and results of the Consolidated General Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

The City Manager recommends adoption of the resolution declaring canvass of returns and results of the Municipal Election held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
