Title
Proclamation Declaring the Month of June 2021 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month.
Body
Proclamation
Whereas, the City of Alameda proudly stands united with our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or questioning family, friends, and neighbors as they declare their pride in who they are and who they love; and
Whereas, Alamedans stand united against hate and believe that the words “Everyone Belongs Here” are realized through efforts to, demand equal protection under the law, reduce bullying and harassment and teach respect for everyone, regardless of age, disability, race, ethnicity, faith, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, or any differences, perceived or real; and
Whereas, the COVID-19 pandemic revealed dramatic inequities across racial and socio-economic lines, and also resulted in worse health outcomes in the LGBTQ community from COVID-19, as well as a greater risk of mental health crises; and
Whereas, as we begin to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, it is imperative to enact relief legislation that is inclusive, to collect data that increases our understanding of the impacts of COVID-19 on the LGBTQ community, and to protect the health and safety of all Americans without bias or discrimination; and
Whereas, the City of Alameda promotes inclusivity and affirms the rights of equal justice and equal opportunity for all LGBTQ community members.
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that I, Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2021 as LGBTQ Pride Month in the City of Alameda, and encourage all Alamedans to celebrate the LGBTQ community, the impact they have on our community, and accept each other for who we are.
