Re: Review and Recommend Marina Village Park Improvement Plan
BACKGROUND
Marina Village Park is a shoreline park located on the estuary on the north side of the Marina Village residential and business district. It is a small, linear passive park that has been maintained by Public Works. As of 2019, it is now the responsibility of the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD). The park has lawn area, picnic tables, a fitness equipment course and a dilapidated fishing pier.
DISCUSSION
This landscape improvement project is being managed by Public Works staff. It is anticipated that the project will go out to bid for construction this summer and start construction in late 2021.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This improvement project is budgeted in the amount $786,412 in the Capital Improvement Program and managed by the Public Works Department. Overall, this project will generally replace existing turf grass on the estuary side of the pathway and convert some turf into drought tolerant landscape with drip irrigation. Some existing trees and shrubs will remain. A new irrigation system and controller will be installed. All benches and picnic tables will be replaced and staff are working to identify additional funding for shade structures over one to two picnic areas.
RECOMMENDATION
