Title
Adoption of Resolution Amending Resolution Nos. 15728 and 15739 Amending the 2021 Regular City Council Meeting Dates. (City Clerk 2210) [Continued from July 6, 2021; Public Comment Closed]
Body
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In December, the City Council adopted a resolution setting the 2021 meeting dates. Regular City Council meetings were set for the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m., with no meetings in August. In January, the September meeting dates were changed due to religious holidays. The recommendation is to change the September meetings back to the first and third Tuesday of the month.
BACKGROUND
Section 3-7 (B) of the City Charter requires that the City Council adopt a resolution setting the dates of its regular meetings in December for the following year. On December 1, 2020, the City Council adopted the 2021 regular meeting dates. On January 19, 2021, the meeting dates for the September meetings were amended.
DISCUSSION
On January 19, 2021, the City Council voted to change the dates of its September meetings to the first and third Wednesday of the month. Staff has learned that there is another religious holiday on the third Wednesday in September. The City has not typically changed regular meeting dates to accommodate religious holidays. In addition, the September meeting dates were changed to accommodate one certain religion, but meeting dates have not been changed to accommodate other religions. This resolution would shift the regular meetings in September back to September 7 and 21.
ALTERNATIVES
* Amend the regular City Council meeting dates as described.
* City Council could elect to change the meetings to other dates.
* Do not amend the meeting dates.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact from setting regular City Council meeting dates.
