Title
Adoption of Resolution Appointing Tyler Savage as Trustee to the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District Board. (Public Works 10041500)
Body
To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A resident of the city of Alameda must be appointed to represent the City of Alameda (City) on the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District Board (Board). Tyler Savage was one of 6 candidates interviewed by Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft and the Public Works Director during the month of December. Mr. Savage is being appointed for a four-year term that will extend through December 31, 2025.
BACKGROUND
The Board is composed of 14 members, one member from each city and one member from the County-at-large. Pursuant to Section 2024(a) of the California Health and Safety Code, a member is appointed for either a two-year or four-year term, at the election of the appointing authority.
The Board determines the general policies to be followed, employs the District manager, approves the annual budget, and controls the expenditures. Each fiscal year, the Board determines the rates of the special tax and benefit assessment that will be levied upon property owners. Funds are held in a trust fund by the County Treasurer and paid out on warrants approved by the Board and authorized by the County Auditor.
DISCUSSION
If approved by the City Council, Tyler Savage will begin serving a four-year term on the Board beginning on January 4, 2022 and expiring December 31, 2025.
ALTERNATIVES
* Appoint Tyler Savage to the Board.
* Direct staff to seek another candidate for this position. As the term for the current city appointee to the Board terminates December 31, 2021, seeking another candidate will mean the city will not have an appointee for the January 12, 2022 meeting and meetings thereafter until an appointment is made.
