EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The previous City Manager Eric Levitt concluded his service as City Manager for the City of Alameda (City) on May 2, 2022. The City Council appointed Assistant City Manager Girard "Gerry" Beaudin as Interim City Manager commencing on May 3, 2022 through his resignation date of May 17, 2022. The City Council is now appointing Dirk Brazil as Interim City Manager. Mr. Brazil will serve during the recruitment for a permanent City Manager. The proposed Employment Agreement would compensate Mr. Brazil at the current salary established for City Manager, which is $133.85 hourly.

BACKGROUND

Mr. Brazil previously served as the City Manager for Davis, California. Additionally since his retirement he has acted as Interim City Manager in South Lake Tahoe, California.

DISCUSSION

The City Council may appoint Mr. Brazil as Interim City Manager by approving the proposed Employment Agreement, a copy of which is attached as Exhibit 1. The hourly rate pursuant to this contract is $133.85 per hour and Mr. Brazil is expected to work approximately 32 hours a week. In accordance with Government Codes Sections 21211 (h) and 7522.56 (d) as a California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, Mr. Brazil may work up to 960 hours per fiscal year for a CalPERS employer (like the City) without impacting his retirement benefits.

The City Council is currently in the process of recruiting for a new City Manager.
