EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The City Council must adopt a resolution calling the November election for the offices of Mayor and Councilmember and requesting Alameda County to conduct the election.
BACKGROUND
City Charter Section 19-2 requires a General Municipal Election to be held biennially on the date of, and consolidated with, the Statewide General Election in each even-numbered year.
DISCUSSION
In accordance with the City Charter and the California Elections Code, the City Council shall call for the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election to be consolidated with the Statewide General Election. The following City offices will appear on the ballot: Mayor and two City Councilmembers, as well as all ballot or advisory measures or propositions, which may lawfully be submitted. At this meeting, the City Council will also consider two ballot measures: 1) amending the City Charter related to City Council compensation and 2) amending the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT). If the City agrees to reimburse costs, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters will provide election-related services.
