Continued Discussion of the Development and Implementation of the 2022 Community Needs Assessment

Body

To: Honorable President Sarah Lewis and Members of the Social Service Human Relations Board

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This item is a regularly occurring agenda item to discuss the development and implementation of the 2022 Community Needs Assessment (CNA).

BACKGROUND

This item is a regularly occurring agenda item to discuss the development and implementation of the 2022 CNA. The City’s Charter assigns the Social Service Human Relations Board (SSHRB) the responsibility of assessing and responding to the social service and human relations needs of the City of Alameda (City). To fulfill that responsibility, SSHRB has periodically surveyed Alameda residents to determine the scope of the community needs and to evaluate and publicize resources to meet those needs. The last CNA was presented to the City Council in June 2018.

DISCUSSION

SSHRB’s 2022 Work Plan identified the development of a CNA as a priority item. Under the Work Plan, SSHRB will:

Develop and finalize a methodology for the needs assessment

Collect data, develop outreach materials and translations

Analyze primary data and complete secondary data collection

Draft preliminary report for SSHRB approval

Present final report to City Council

At its September 22, 2022 meeting, SSHRB will discuss:

Status of the focus groups to be conducted by the end of September and recent meetings with the focus group facilitator, CERES Policy Research.

The draft CNA Databook with an added Executive Summary.

RECOMMENDATION

This item is for discussion purposes only. No action is needed.

Respectfully submitted,

Eric Fonstein

Development Manager
