EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The City of Alameda (City) Police Department building was designed and constructed in 1977. The building has had routine maintenance and upkeep, however has not been remodeled or renovated. The proposed Reception Area and Ramp Renovation Project will increase accessibility and provide enhanced safety measures for staff. City Council considered and awarded a construction contract for this project on April 19, 2022; however, the awarded contractor was terminated after three months. Staff rebid the project after the initial contract termination and now recommends City Council award the proposed contract to G & G Builders, Inc. to construct the improvements.

BACKGROUND

The City's Police Department building, located at 1555 Oak Street, is a 35,184 square foot, two story with basement, structure. The facility, built in 1977, was designed and constructed to specifically house the Alameda Police Department. Funding for the proposed Reception Area and Ramp Renovation Project was appropriated in the 2017-2019 Capital Improvement Program. The project increases accessibility by widening the existing ramp and entrance, replaces the lobby and elevator door controls, and modifies the service counter/window to meet accessibility code requirements. Additionally, the scope calls to replace the non-compliant fire-rated wall, window and doors assemblies, restore the floor and soffit/ceiling, and enhance safety measures for staff.
