Title
Vision Zero Committee Meeting Report
Body
To: Honorable President Sarah Lewis and Members of the Social Service Human Relations Board
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This item is a regularly occurring agenda item to report on the City’s Vision Zero committee meetings.
BACKGROUND
At the July 22, 2021 Social Service Human Relations Board (SSHRB) meeting, transportation staff presented the draft Vision Zero Action Plan that aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries in Alameda by 2040. The presentation included data on demographics, locations, and severity of accidents over the past ten years in Alameda, a map of high injury corridors on the island, and an overview of key action plan goals and prioritization of injury- and fatality-reducing measures. SSHRB discussed the importance of including an equity lens, particularly as older populations are at higher risk of injury and fatality resulting from accidents. Board member Means volunteered to attend senior outreach and Vision Zero subcommittee meetings.
At the August 25, 2023 SSHRB meeting, Board member Means reported that he attended the first meeting for the Vision Zero committee on traffic safety. He suggested that this become a regular agenda item to keep the rest of the Board informed.
