BACKGROUND

In accordance with requirements of the Final Consent Decree for Case Nos. C09-00186 and 09-05684, of which the City of Alameda is part to, the Public Works Department is upgrading existing sanitary sewer pump stations to limit public health impacts associated with sanitary sewer overflows and to improve reliability and safety. On February 15, 2011, the City Council awarded two contracts to Schaaf and Wheeler for the preparation of engineering documents for Phase 1 ($433,431) and Phase 2 ($93,373) of the City of Alameda Sewer Pump Station Upgrades. The professional services to be provided in these contracts include the preparation of engineering plans specifications, detailed estimates, project management assistance to review future contractor design submittals, change orders, requests for information, and site inspections prior to and during construction. The two phases combined included work on 32 individual pump stations. The original contracts assumed one set of bid documents would be prepared for each phase, for a total of two sets of bid documents and construction support services for two separate construction contracts.
