Re: Recommendation to Amend the Contract with MV Transportation to Extend the Term by One Year and Amend the Amount by $85,000 for a Total Compensation of $301,999 Over Five Years for Paratransit Shuttle Services.

BACKGROUND

Since 2009, the City has operated a free shuttle for seniors and people with disabilities, as one element of its multi-faceted, locally-based paratransit program. The City Council initially approved the Alameda Paratransit Shuttle service with the goal of reducing motor vehicle trips by the target population, and reducing the dependence on paratransit taxi services within the City. The shuttle service is open to the public, though the primary purpose of the shuttle is to serve individuals with disabilities and seniors by providing access to major shopping destinations and medical facilities around the City.

The shuttle operates from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and currently has a one hour frequency. The shuttle operates on three routes (See Exhibit 1 for brochures with schedules):
? Tuesdays: West Loop (between Alameda Landing and downtown Alameda)
? Wednesdays: East Loop (between Bay Farm Island, downtown Alameda and Mastick Senior Center)
? Thursdays: Central Loop (between downtown Alameda, Shore Line Drive and Bridgeside Center)

Recently, there have been an average of 430 boardings per month.
