EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Alameda Fire Department owns and maintains 22 separate pieces of medical equipment for use on the ALS fire engines, trucks, and ambulances. Staff recommends awarding a three year contract to Physio Control Inc. for the service and repair of this equipment in an amount not to exceed $30,000 annually.
BACKGROUND
Physio Control sells and services a wide range of medical devices and equipment, which include the Lifepak 15 (LP 15) Automatic External Defibrillator and the Lucas Device, an automatic chest compression device to be used during CPR.
The Alameda Fire Department owns and maintains 22 separate pieces of equipment for use on the ALS fire engines, trucks, and ambulances. Monitors and other equipment require annual inspection and updates to their systems. Additionally, department equipment must be repaired as needed.
The terms of the agreement provide for service and repair of the Fire Department's complete inventory of medical monitors and CPR compression devices.
DISCUSSION
The Fire Department uses a wide array of medical equipment in the course of operations. Some of the equipment is computerized and uses sophisticated automated systems to securely interface with surrounding hospitals. This equipment requires specialized diagnostic equipment to maintain and repair as needed.
