EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Godfrey Park recreation building is used for the Tiny Tots programs, summer camp programs, and as a facility that can be rented by the general public. The general public also has access to the restroom facilities while enjoying park offerings. The recreation building, designed and constructed in 1963, has not been remodeled or renovated in any substantive fashion. With the exception of the restrooms, most of the interior spaces (administration office, kitchenette, and community room) are adequate for Alameda Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) activities. As such, this project entailed new paint, new flooring, and casework (cabinets, doors, and related framing) for the interior spaces. The park restrooms required extensive work to bring them to current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and to improve overall usability. This project replaced the existing restrooms with three new single user restrooms. On April 29, 2022, the facility was opened to the public. The project executed under the contract is complete and staff recommends City Council accept the work.

BACKGROUND

The two existing restrooms at the Godfrey Park recreation building required replacement to bring them up to current code-compliant facility standards including ADA accessibility. A new third restroom in the recreation building was needed to meet the demand of park and recreation facility users.

Additional work included selective demolition and renovation of exterior concrete flatwork at building entry points for ADA accessibility, interior repainting of the entire facility, replacement of kitchenette casework, cabinets, and finishes.
